Karl var en tid anställd vid ett företag (AB Alcometaller), där man bl a tillverkade matbestick i dirigold. "Dirigold är en gulmetall som består av ca 90 procent koppar och tio procent aluminium." 3 Efter en tid fick han erbjudande om arbete i USA. Flyttade 1926-04-01 från Axberg (T) till Kokomo, Indiana, USA. Yrke: Gjutare. Utflyttningsort: Berga, Bergholmen, Axbergs församling (sid 281). Ålder: 41 år. - Karl reste iväg ensam. Han ville nämligen först se hur läget var "over there", innan han tog över familjen. Ca 1927-1928 följde hustru Alma och deras 5 barn plus Almas son Nils, från , efter. Men bara ca ½ år efter att familjen återförenats, drabbades Karl och hans barn och styvson av ett svårt dråpslag, då hustrun Alma avled, trol i samband med en operation???? Karls syster Elin, som var ogift och arbetade i Stockholm, ansökte då om att få resa över till USA för att vara sin bror behjälplig med hemmets skötsel och barnens uppfostran. Sommaren 1966 deltog Karl i ett "party for some of the men who worked at the Dirilite at one time or the other". Maj 1969. "Dad (Karl) hasn't been very well - he just seems to sit or lay around most of the time & I was hoping nice wether would perk? him up, but it didn't seem to do it this year." År 1970. "Dad (Karl) passed away yesterday, Thursday, June 25th at 9.30 in the morning. He had been in a coma & had not known anyone for several days. He just went to sleep. ... No-one ever had a better Dad & so we all have beautiful memories. It's so hard to give him up, but he had suffered enough. ... We are going over this afternoon & see him & the funeral is Saturday at 2 p.m." July 1970. "He (Karl) was so tired & up until he went into a coma he couldn't seem to sleep. He had always enjoyed sleeping & this realy bothered him. He kept asking, 'what time is it' & 'how much longer can this go on'. He really didn't appear to have any pain even when they turned him, which was ever 2 hours. They took such good care of him. ... All the nurses called him Dad Peterson & Pap & kept him so clean & neat. He looked about 60 in the casket. One of the Doctors I work for remarked how very young he looked." June 1970. "Karl A. Peterson, 85, Oakford, died late Thursday in the St. Joseph Memorial Hospital here following an extended illness. Born Jan. 14, 1885, in Sweden, he was the son of Fredrick and Wilhelmina Persson. He came to the United States in April, 1926, and had been an employe of the Dirilyte Company here until his retirement in 1955.He was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Sweden. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge och the Loyal Order of the Moose.Surviving are three sons, Nils of Richmond and Barry and Bert, both of Kokomo; four daughters, Mrs. Linnea Wall, Sweden; Mrs Helga Summerton, Oakford; Mrs Britta Dunlap and Mrs. Margie Smith, both of Marion; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and six sisters, all of Sweden. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Fenn Funeral Home with the Rev. Francis Niesen officiating. Burial will be in Crown Point Cemetery.
